Notes & Observations

Background – “It was raised by Mr. B. W. Withain, nursery man, Reddish, near Stockport. Offered in their 1866 catalogue” (source)

7.5.20 – Moderate blossom, mainly on older wood (as expected).

24.6.20 – Spotted symptoms of canker, some infected material removed.

13.8.20 – Low fruit set, 6-10 fruits, some windfalls. Serious canker problems noted (see gallery above), major pruning required to address the issues. May require removal of at least one main branch, if not the entire central leader section.

Season 2020 – Vigorous growth despite canker. No notes made on fruit, merged in with other cooking apples. If tree survives another season will try to separate and make notes.
