Quick Website Update: Variety Lists Added
Just a very quick note to say that I’ve added a new page to the site: Fruit Varieties I Have Known and Grown. This is partly an aide-memoir for myself, so I can keep track of which varieties of mainly apples I already have on my allotment – very useful when attending scion swaps – and it’s also somewhere to send people who ask me about the trees I’m currently growing or working with.
I’ll be adding a few more lists to the page in due course, detailing the varieties that to be found at work, and at one or two other sites, but to start with there’s a full roll-call of my allotment cordons, stepovers and tall spindles, which might be vaguely interesting if you’re curious about that sort of thing.
Slightly off the apple topic question Darren, but you did post a teaser picture
Moorpark’ apricots, harvested at National Trust Quarry Bank, late July 2025
Can you please advise how the apricot is grown ie in unheated greenhouse, against warm south wall, etc
Thank you
Hi Russ – It’s a large, mature, approximately fan-trained tree growing in the walled garden against-a south-facing wall. Very productive indeed this year.
